Balance
One of the first things a cyclist must learn is balance. Without the mastery of this fundamental, one's riding career is short lived. Webster defines balances as..."Stability produced by even distribution on both sides of a vertical axis". Perhaps this explains why we love to ride! For the brief period of time we are on the bike, the world is stable, in sync, balanced. A feat hard to duplicate in real life, where so much we encounter is in turmoil, uncertainty, and brokenness.
One thing is for certain, a few miles down the road with the wind in your face, balance is restored to the world; at least for a while!

A Good Sunday Ride!
After a few household chores such as raking leaves, and a jaunt to the grocery store, I decided it was time for a quick ride. It was mid afternoon when I put on my winter garb and headed off. At ride time, the outside temperature had reached it's climax, 43 degrees, and would soon be heading the other direction. As I travelled west on the old "National Road", traffic was sparse, and the road seemed quick. The sun would periodically appear from behind the large gray clouds, as if to let me know she was still around! Soon I was heading north on Rt. 235, and the wind picked up slightly, but not enough to cause any concern. The freshly harvested fields, were alive with large black crows gorging themselves with the grain left behind by the combines, certain to be joined by the deer, as the sun begins to set. Flocks of Canada geese flew over head on their way to Miami, or some other warm destination, Lucky Geese! As I approached Rt. 41, I headed east on my way back to Springfield. This road has a couple of small villages which are guarded by ever present, and aggressive ,"Barney Fife" types, so I needed to pay attention to my speed. Soon I was pulling into my garage, glad I had been out, and ready for some coffee!

GO Bucks!
If you are a Buckeye fan today is the most holy of days. One of the greatest rivalries in all of sports, will kick off at noon in the god forsaken state of Michigan. I am at work, but will be able to watch the game as the streets are desolate and eerily quiet. Yes it is a great day...

Decisions, Decisions
I spent this afternoon looking at the new BMW K1200GT and the R1200RT at a dealership in Columbus. I currently ride a cruiser, but I have been thinking about adding a sport tourer to the stable. Both of these BMW's are awesome, but do I need to spend the extra money on a BMW, when I would probably be fine with the Honda ST1300,Yamaha FJR1300, or the Kawasaki Concours 14? I am more confused than ever!

Winter Reading
A rainy day in Springfield has given me a great opportunity to work on this site. I have been able to take some time to surf the web, and locate other sites that have a passion for motorcycles, and the "ride". I look forward to reading these blogs in the cold and dreary days ahead.
Rained Out?
I had planned a short day trip for this morning. The forecast predicted a nice day, with temperatures in the 50's. I woke up around 6:00 a.m. to a downpour! Guess I will wait to see what this afternoon brings, in the meantime, back to bed!

The Queen City
After completing a few household chores, my son, Jonathan, and I, left Springfield for an afternoon ride, destination; Cincinnati! The route we chose for the trip was all Interstate, and would cover approximately 170 miles round trip.
We pulled out of our driveway at 1 p.m. heading west on I-70, 15 miles later we jumped on I-675 south, which joins I-75, about 35 miles down the road, I-75 brings us into the heart of the "Queen City". As you can imagine, the roads were excellent, with weekend traffic being very heavy, and in quite a hurry to get home, as traffic moved along briskly at 75 miles per hour. It was a beautiful Autumn afternoon, with temperatures in the low 50's, and sunny, although, the closer we moved toward Cincy, the stronger the wind became, at one point I faced a couple strong gusts that tried persuasively to throw my 1999 Shadow Aero into another lane.
Upon our arrival in Cincinnati, we parked our mounts just outside the Arena District, near Paul Brown Stadium, home of the Bengals, and the Great American Ball Park, where the Reds, play their home baseball games. After taking some photos, we moved around the downtown, heading now where in particular. Soon it began to get cold and the sun started to set, our clue to head home. The trip home was fast and purposeful, we were ready to get back. We pulled into the garage around 6 p.m. both a littled chilled. It was a good ride but I was ready for a shower and a hot cup of coffee!
